An Analysis of Senior High School English Textbooks’ Core Competencies Using China’s English Curriculum Standard Framework

The study aimed to identify the features of linguistic competence, cultural awareness, thinking capacity and learning ability found in English textbooks used senior high school China. This a qualitative approach content analysis three PEP textbooks. China’s Curriculum Standards (CECS), established by Ministry Education 2017, were Core Competencies (ECCs). Compulsory subjects for this study. They as materials where was held. One research question asked part underpinning: What capacity, components China? findings showed that competence had highest frequency 29%, vocabulary ranked second at 22%. Whereas Chinese culture 41%, foreign with 34%. Thinking 48%, critical 27%. inquiry 45%, cooperative Each component has its features, but they are interrelated integrated into each other make up system.
